Baseball - Fall 2024

It's been a while since Hereford Rec had a fall baseball program and we are bringing it back. This year we are going to try a fast pace, new baseball gameplay known as "speedball," "quick pitch," or even "fastball". There are several versions of the game, but they are wildly popular for developmental leagues in the South and the West Coast. It has gained popularity for its fast pace of play, increased number of game repetitions (more at bats and field play), and increased participation. 

The game looks like this: You have three teams of four to five players. One team is up to bat, one team plays the infield, one team plays the outfield. Three teams rotate from hitting, to infield, to outfield to complete an inning. We still have three outs and the normal rules of baseball apply. This will be coach pitched to keep the pace of play.

Instead of players getting 3 to 4 at bats a game, it's not unusual to see nine innings and a player get 10 at bats in an hour. These game repetitions are so valuable and it's super fun for the kids.

The Season Timeline

The season will run from approximately September 1 through the end of October. If fields are available, we might practice during the week, otherwise games will be on Sunday afternoons. 

Uniforms and Equipment

Each child participating in the program will receive a hat and shirt that they will keep. Jerseys are non-refundable. Each player is responsible for supplying their own baseball pants.
